Graeme Souness makes prediction about Philippe Coutinho and Liverpool
Graeme Souness is not expecting Liverpool to be able to keep Philippe Coutinho from joining Barcelona this summer
Graeme Souness believes that it’s going to be difficult for Liverpool to keep Philippe Coutinho at the club beyond the summer if Barcelona continue their interest in the Brazilian.
The 25-year-old’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after Barcelona cashed in on Neymar by selling the Brazilian to Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record £198m deal.
Barcelona are now on the lookout for a replacement and Coutinho has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou as the Spanish side look to bring in attacking reinforcements.
Former Liverpool star Souness believes that it would be difficult for the Reds to keep hold of Coutinho, because the attacker is likely to want to join Barcelona.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Souness said: “I don’t think you can [keep him]. The chance to play for a team that would suit his style of play, I don’t think he can say no to it, as hard as that is for Liverpool to accept.”
It remains to be seen whether Coutinho will still be playing his football at Anfield when the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Liverpool have been relatively active in the summer transfer window so far, bringing in three new players ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s second full season at the club.
The Reds have signed Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson as the German coach prepares his team for the new Premier League season and also a return to the Champions League this term.
