Carragher: Liverpool should be concerned about losing 25-year-old (not Coutinho)
The Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds should be worried about losing Sadio Mane after his excellent start to the season
Jamie Carragher has warned Liverpool that Sadio Mane will soon be attracting interest from Europe’s top clubs.
The Reds have been contending with interest in Philippe Coutinho from La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window so far.
Liverpool have already rejected three offers for the Brazil international from Barcelona but the Catalan side are rumoured to be preparing a fresh £136m bid.
The Merseyside outfit have been coping without their number 10 in the 2017-18 campaign so far, thanks in large part to Mane’s excellent performances.
The Senegal international scored against Crystal Palace and Watford, while the Reds were 6-3 winners against Hoffenheim on aggregate in their Champions League playoff.
Mane netted 13 times and made five assists in the Premier League last season to establish himself as one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players.
Liverpool signed the 25-year-old winger in a £30m deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Mane is close to surpassing Coutinho as the club’s key player before adding that the Reds should be braced for interest to arrive in the African star.
“Coutinho is a fantastic player and that’s why Barcelona want him,” Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.
“If he [Mane] carries on the way he is going, every top club in Europe will be looking at him because he has been a revelation since he came from Southampton.”
Liverpool will host Arsenal in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
