Michael Owen is backing Liverpool to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The Reds had looked like they were set to challenge for the Premier League title last season but their form tailed off in the second half of the campaign and they were left scrapping for a top-four finish.

Liverpool ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table as they managed to secure a return to the Champions League.

The Reds will have to take on Hoffenheim in the play-off round to secure their place in the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition.

Owen feels that progress is being made by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and the former striker is tipping Liverpool to finish in the top four once again next season.

Owen is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “Liverpool will have to go through the qualification rounds for the Champions League which adds extra matches, but Jurgen Klopp has addressed this by adding both quality and quantity to the squad.

“A good run in Europe and another top-four finish will be seen as a good season.”

Liverpool have brought in three new players so far this summer as the Reds prepare for Klopp’s second full season in charge at the club.

The Reds have signed Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson as they gear up for the 2017-18 campaign.
