Jurgen Klopp gives latest update on Philippe Coutinho for Liverpool fans
Jurgen Klopp delivers the latest update on the speculation about Philippe Coutinho's Liverpool future
Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the uncertainty surrounding Philippe Coutinho’s future at Liverpool is not ideal.
The Brazilian playmaker’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent days as he continues to be linked with a big-money transfer to Barcelona.
The Spanish side are thought to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements after they sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record transfer deal.
The situation got even more complicated for Liverpool earlier this month when Coutinho was said to have handed in a transfer request in a bid to force a move away from Anfield.
However, he remains at Liverpool for the time being, with the Reds having insisted that he is not for sale this summer.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, Klopp opened up about Coutinho’s situation, telling Sky Sports: “At the moment, as you can imagine, it’s not too easy for anybody, but we have to be concentrated on the job on the pitch, and I really think the boys did brilliant.
“I don’t think that it makes sense to think too much ahead, what can happen and when.
“The situation is like it is, and it has not changed, that’s all I know. When there is no other decision possible – on the 31st of August – then we have to think about everything new.”
Coutinho missed the game on Saturday due to an injury and it remains to be seen when he will return to action for the Reds.
Liverpool are now preparing for the return leg of their Champions League play-off clash against Hoffenheim at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds then return to Premier League action with a crunch showdown against Arsenal next weekend on Merseyside.
