Jamie Carragher sends transfer message to Liverpool about 25-year-old attacker
Jamie Carragher has his say about Philippe Coutinho's situation at Liverpool in the summer transfer window
Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is very much hoping that Philippe Coutinho will stay at Liverpool beyond the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old playmaker’s future has not been far from the headlines this summer as the Brazilian continues to be linked with a big-money transfer to Barcelona.
The Catalan club are thought to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements after they sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in a world record £198m deal last week.
Liverpool fans will be desperately hoping to see Coutinho stay at Anfield beyond the summer transfer window, with the playmaker having firmly established himself as one of the Premier League’s finest talents in recent seasons.
Former Reds star Carragher is unsurprisingly very much hoping that Coutinho stays on at the club but also thinks that it’s important for the Premier League to keep hold of one of its stars.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said: “Not just as a Liverpool fan but as a Premier League fan you want to keep a player of that quality in our league.
“We’ve lost too many players over the last few years to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Fingers crossed Liverpool can keep hold of him.”
Liverpool are currently preparing for their Premier League opener against at Watford on Saturday afternoon as they look to make a positive start to the new season.
The Reds are set to take on German side Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-off round as they look to secure their spot in the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition.
