Top 24-year-old will move to Liverpool or see out Arsenal contact, claims insider
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will complete a move to Liverpool or see out the remainder of his Arsenal deal, according to Aidan Magee
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will move to Liverpool or see out the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract, Aidan Magee has claimed.
The Gunners midfielder’s future remains up in the air with less than 24 hours remaining of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea agreed a transfer fee with Arsenal to sign the England international before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
There were then widespread reports on Wednesday evening that Liverpool had also agreed a fee with the Gunners.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is though to prefer a move to Liverpool where Jurgen Klopp would deploy the 24-year-old in a midfield role.
The former Southampton starlet has been used in an unorthodox wing-back role since Arsene Wenger switched to a 3-4-3 formation.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is thought to be planning to use the England international in the same position should Oxlade-Chamberlain complete a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Sky Sports News reporter Magee has now revealed that Oxlade-Chamberlain will move to Liverpool or knuckle down and see out the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract.
“Let’s check in with a deal that’s gathered pace in the last couple of days,” Magee told Sky Sports News on Thursday morning. “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Chelsea.
“Arsenal had agreed a fee believed to be £35m with Chelsea but the England winger wants to move instead to Liverpool.
“He’ll now either go to Anfield if they bid for him and agree a fee, or he’ll see out the remaining 11 months of his contract at The Emirates.”
Liverpool were 4-0 winners against Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend as Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled in a wing-back role before being substituted in the second half.
The Reds have signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson this summer.
