Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool need more signings to win the title
ESPN FC pundit Paul Mariner warns Liverpool need more signings to win the Premier League title this season
Paul Mariner has told Liverpool to forget about winning the Premier League title this season unless Jurgen Klopp makes some more summer signings.
The Reds have only managed to get three deals over the line in the summer transfer window so far in what has been a frustrating off-season for Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy.
Former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah has been their biggest purchase so far after the Egypt international moved to Liverpool in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma last month.
Liverpool have also signed England Under-20 international Dominic Solanke in a free transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea.
The Reds have also improved their left-back options with the £8m addition of Scotland international Andy Robertson from relegated Hull City.
However, Liverpool have been left frustrated in their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita and Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
Discussing Klopp’s Premier League title ambitions this season, former Arsenal striker Mariner had a reality check for the Liverpool boss.
“It isn’t possible [that Liverpool could win the title with their current squad]. There is a lack of signings and there are injury to key players,” Mariner told ESPN FC.
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table in their first season under Klopp.
The German coach took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
