Gary Lineker sends blunt advice to Liverpool about Philippe Coutinho transfer saga
Spurs legend Gary Lineker believes Liverpool should sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona before the close of the summer transfer window
Gary Lineker has urged Liverpool to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, adding that the Reds don’t need the Brazilian.
The South American playmaker missed his fourth successive fixture of the 2017-18 campaign on Wednesday night as Liverpool eased to a 4-2 victory over German side Hoffenheim at Anfield.
Goals from Emre Can, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino secured the Merseyside outfit’s place in the Champions League group-stage draw in the absence of their number 10.
Liverpool have been fending off interest in their Brazil international from La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
Coutinho has handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a switch to the Spanish side before next week’s transfer deadline day.
Barcelona are though to be preparing a fourth and final offer of £136m to sign the 25-year-old attacker to help replace Neymar.
Spurs legend Lineker believes Liverpool don’t need Coutinho and should sell the Brazil international to Barcelona this summer.
“Philippe Coutinho. Sell him, they don’t need him,” Lineker told BT Sport on Wednesday night.
Coutinho moved to Liverpool in an £8.5m deal from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Brazilian midfielder scored 13 goals and made seven assists in 31 appearances last term to help the Reds to secure fourth place and a return to the Champions League.
