Ex-striker makes confident Liverpool prediction about 25-year-old attacker
Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is backing Philippe Coutinho to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Philippe Coutinho will leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The Reds are facing a battle to keep the Brazil international beyond transfer deadline day as Barcelona looks to prise the attacking midfielder away from the Merseyside outfit.
The La Liga champions have reportedly failed with two bids to sign the 25-year-old playmaker, while Coutinho has handed in a transfer request at the 18-time English champions.
Liverpool drew 3-3 with Watford in their Premier League opener at Vicarage Road in the absence of the former Inter Milan midfielder.
Coutinho scored 13 goals and made seven assists in the 31 appearances in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season to help Liverpool finish in fourth place.
Former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink is backing Coutinho to leave Liverpool before the close of the summer transfer window.
“I see it only one way. In the end he will go,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports News.
Coutinho moved to Liverpool in an £8.5m deal from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Reds have already sold Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the past seven seasons.
Liverpool have also seen Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso move to Real Madrid and prolific striker Fernando Torres move to Chelsea in the past decade.
Klopp’s side will take on Hoffenheim in the first leg of their Champions League playoff on Tuesday night.
