Journalist: Top 21-year-old attacker wants to move to Liverpool
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol tells Liverpool that Monaco forward Thomas Lemar wants to move
Thomas Lemar wants to leave Monaco this summer as Liverpool look to sign the France international in a club-record deal, Kaveh Solhekol has claimed.
The 21-year-old has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League in the past couple of months but a deal has failed to materialise so far.
Arsenal were initially thought to be leading the race to sign the France international but the Gunners were unable to reach an agreement with Monaco about a transfer fee.
The north London side appeared to pull out of the race to bring in Lemar this summer last week ahead of a 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Merseyside outfit have now tested Monaco’s resolve with two offers to sign the France forward including a club-record £66m deal.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol has offered Liverpool encouragement after claiming Monaco do have a price that would convince them to sell another top player this summer.
“What a window it has been at Liverpool, on and off the pitch,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Tuesday morning.
“They made two bids Thomas Lemar and both have been rejected by Monaco. The second bid was a club-record £65m.
“Monaco are under no pressure to sell because they are on course to raise more than £300m from selling players this summer. Monaco want him to stay but we’re told that every player has his price.
“Lemar wants to move but he’s not kicking up a fuss. He played the full 90 minutes as Monaco beat Marseille on Sunday. He’s currently with the France squad just outside Paris.”
Monaco have already sold Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva this summer, with Kylian Mbappe tipped to move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Liverpool have signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson so far this summer.
Fact file: Thomas Lemar
Thomas Lemar moved to AS Monaco from Ligue 2 side Caen in the 2015 summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old scored five times in 34 top-flight games in his first season in the Principality.
However, Lemar came into his own with a return of 14 goals in 55 appearances in all competitions in 2016-17.
The France star helped AS Monaco to win the Ligue 1 titles and reach the Champions League semi-finals before losing to Italian club Juventus.
