Liverpool ready to make 26-year-old fourth summer signing if club decide to sell – report
Liverpool are still keeping tabs on Virgil van Dijk in case Southampton decide to cash in on their club captain, according to reports
Liverpool are ready to sign Virgil van Dijk if Southampton decide to sell their club captain in the final 10 days of the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The Liverpool Echo is reporting that the Merseyside outfit haven’t given up on the possibility of signing the 26-year-old centre-half before transfer deadline day.
The same article states that the Saints are on the brink of completing a £17m deal to sign Wesley Hoedt from Lazio to strengthen their options at centre-half.
Southampton have regularly reiterated their stance that Van Dijk will not be sold in the summer transfer window despite interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, Liverpool are ready to pounce if the Saints decide to sell the Netherlands international to raise funds to make further summer signings.
The Reds started the season with Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren at centre-half for a 3-3 draw with Watford and a 2-1 win against Hoffenheim in the Champions League last week.
However, Jurgen Klopp opted to start with Ragnar Klavan alongside Matip in a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in their first Premier League game at Anfield.
Liverpool will host Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the second leg of their Champions League playoff at Anfield on Wednesday night.
