Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool don’t need 25-year-old attacker
Spurs legend Garth Crooks tells Liverpool to sell Philippe Coutinho before Thursday's deadline
Garth Crooks has urged Liverpool to cash in on Philippe Coutinho before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The 25-year-old playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish outfit Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The La Liga giants have already failed with three offers to sign the Brazil international as Liverpool refuse to sell their number 10.
Coutinho has also handed in a transfer request in an attempt to secure a lucrative move to Barcelona before deadline day.
Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have already scored in Liverpool’s Premier League games against Watford and Arsenal.
Indeed, Senegal international Mane has netted in all three Premier League games so far, while Salah has found the net against Watford, Hoffenheim and Arsenal.
Former Spurs forward Crooks believes Liverpool should sell Coutinho with forward Mane and Salah in prolific form.
“Those of you who regularly read my team of the week will know how much I think of Mane’s Liverpool team-mate Philippe Coutinho,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“However, with Mane looking so impressive at the moment it makes you wonder why Liverpool are deliberating over Coutinho’s proposed move to Barcelona.”
Crooks added: “Salah’s arrival on to the scene at Anfield is further proof that the deal for Coutinho is simply too good to turn down – so get on with it.”
Liverpool were 4-0 winners against title rivals Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge, Mane, Salah and Firmino.
The Merseyside outfit were 6-3 aggregate winners against Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the Champions League playoffs.
The Reds will face Spanish side Sevilla, Slovenian outfit Maribor and Russian club Spartak Moscow in the Champions League group stage.
