The Independent is reporting that the 26-year-old defender is still hoping to secure a transfer to Anfield this summer but it remains to be seen if a move can be concluded.
The same report now says that late moves from Chelsea and Arsenal could “complicate” the situation for the defender, who has made his desire to leave Southampton clear this summer.
The story also reports, however, that it would likely take a bid of more than £70m to to persuade Southampton to even consider selling Van Dijk this summer.
The Netherlands defender has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer.
The Reds were thought to be close to securing a deal for the defender back in June, but the move fell through when Southampton accused Liverpool of an alleged illegal approach.
The Merseyside outfit then issued a statement apologising to Southampton and said that they were withdrawing their interest in the player.
However, that has not stopped the speculation linking the defender with a move to Anfield before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.
