Charlie Nicholas is tipping Liverpool to beat Hoffenheim on Wednesday night, although the Arsenal legend believes both teams will score at Anfield.

The Merseyside outfit were 2-1 winners against the Bundesliga outfit in the first leg of their Champions League playoff last week.

Liverpool continued to build their confidence with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in their first Premier League game at Anfield in the 2017-18 campaign.

Hoffenheim kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 win against Werder Bremen to bounce back from their setback against Liverpool.

The Reds managed to keep their first clean sheet of the season against the Eagles after conceding four goals in their opening two fixtures of the new season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is backing Liverpool to ease to a 4-2 aggregate win against Hoffenheim to secure their place in the Champions League group stage.

“They’re an exciting attacking side though and Sadio Mane’s pace is frightening,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“We’ll wait to see what we get with Daniel Sturridge this season, but I don’t see anything other than a home win, although I’d expect both teams to score.”

If Liverpool can avoid defeat on Wednesday night, the Reds will secure a place in the group-stage draw alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

The Reds have signed three players in the summer transfer window so far after snapping up AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson.
