Liverpool want 26-year-old midfielder as Naby Keita alternative – report
Liverpool have made an approach to sign Nice midfielder Jean Seri after giving up on RB Leipzig's Naby Keita, according to reports
Liverpool are keeping tabs on Jean Seri as Jurgen Klopp looks to sign an alternative to Naby Keita, according to reports in England.
The Guardian is reporting that Liverpool have turned their attentions to the Nice midfielder following their frustrating pursuit of the RB Leipzig star earlier this summer.
The same article states that Barcelona’s signing of Paulinho has opened the door for Liverpool to sign the Ivorian midfielder after the Catalan side had previously been linked with Seri.
According to the story, Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, Everton, Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the Nice star.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old, who impressed for the French club in the 2016-17 season.
Seri is reported to have a €40m (£34m) contract release clause, which Liverpool should be able to afford considering their alleged £66m offer for Keita last month.
The Ivory Coast midfielder netted seven goals and made nine assists in 34 appearances in the French top flight last season.
Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw with Watford in their opening Premier League game of the 2017-18 season at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
The Reds have only signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson.
