Jurgen Klopp gives Liverpool update on Philippe Coutinho amid Barcelona link
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is happy with Philippe Coutinho's progress during pre-season
Jurgen Klopp says he is pleased with Philippe Coutinho’s progress ahead of the new season.
The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old is thought to have been the subject of a £92m offer from the Catalian side ahead of the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool boss Klopp is adamant that Coutinho won’t be sold to Barcelona despite recent transfer speculation.
The South American was part of the Reds team that eased to a 3-0 win against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup.
And Klopp expressed his satisfaction with how Coutinho’s pre-season campaign is going ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
“He is in a really good way and we are very pleased with what he is doing,” Klopp told post-match media conference.
“But it is smart and responsible for him that we allow him maximum time and sessions – both individually and with the team.
“So maybe not involved in the matches just yet but that means nothing more than we take our time and make him strong and ready to be a part of what we are going to do.”
Coutinho scored 13 goals and seven assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League last season.
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds have signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, England Under-20 international Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson.
The Merseyside outfit will be looking to challenge for the Premier League title.
