Liverpool unlikely to sign top 23-year-old attacker, claims insider
Liverpool are unlikely to sign PSG forward Julian Draxler this summer, according to Times reporter Rory Smith
Paris Saint-Germain are unlikely to sell Julian Draxler to Liverpool this summer, according to Rory Smith.
The Germany international moved to the Ligue 1 giants in a £40m deal from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in the 2017 January transfer window.
Draxler has scored four goals and made assist in 17 appearances in Ligue 1 during his first six months in the French capital.
The 23-year-old was previously linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool before PSG won the race to sign the German forward.
However, Brazil international Neymar completed a world-record £198m move to PSG from La Liga side Barcelona earlier this month.
Draxler’s position could be under threat in the PSG team which has thrown up the possibility of the German star leaving the Ligue 1 giants this summer.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are still being linked with a fresh move to sign the attacker in the current transfer window.
The Times’ reporter Smith believes PSG is unlikely to sell Draxler in the summer transfer window despite recent reports of a potential move to Liverpool.
“Klopp has been interested in Draxler in the past,” Smith told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“[But] I’d be staggered if PSG let him go six months after he arrived.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term.
The Reds have signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson.
