Michael Owen is backing Liverpool to beat Crystal Palace for the first time in four attempts at Anfield on Saturday.
The Reds will the Eagles in their first home Premier League game of the 2017-18 season fresh from a 2-1 victory over Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Liverpool have a remarkably poor record against Palace at Anfield in recent seasons and have lost their last three meetings with the London club on Merseyside.
The Merseyside outfit lost 2-1 to the Eagles back in April to put their top-four hopes in doubt before the 18-time English champions secured a Champions League spot on the final day of the season.
Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw with Watford in their Premier League opener at Vicarage Road last weekend after Miguel Britos scored a late equaliser in added time.
Palace, meanwhile, suffered a surprise 3-0 loss to promoted side Huddersfield Town in their Premier League curtain raiser last weekend.
Former Liverpool striker Owen is confident Jurgen Klopp’s side can capitalise on a demoralised Palace side to secure their first win of the new season.
“The Eagles have won their last three at Anfield in the Premier League, but their confidence must have taken a knock following their loss to newly-promoted Huddersfield Town at Selhurst Park last Saturday,” Owen told BetVictor.
“New Eagles Coach Frank De Boer must do without Wilfried Zaha through injury against the Reds and it could be a long afternoon for Palace at Anfield.
“Both sides have found the back of the net in the last ten competitive games between the sides and I expect to see goals at Anfield this weekend – especially for the Reds.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place last season and a point ahead of Arsenal to secure a return to the Champions League.
