The Red Devils signed the Armenia international in a £30m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The attacking midfielder endured a difficult first season at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho due to loss of form and injuries in his debut campaign in England.
Mkhitaryan has scored four goals and made one assist in 24 appearances in the Premier League last term after struggling to make an impression at Old Trafford.
The Armenian midfielder arrived in the Premier League fresh from being named the Bundesliga’s player of the year after scoring 11 times and making 15 goals for his Dortmund team-mates.
However, Manchester United fans will be encouraged by the playmaker’s start to the 2017-18 season after Mkhitaryan made four assists in their opening two Premier League games.
Former Manchester United defender Vidic challenged Mkhitaryan to improve his goal output in the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
“He should be scoring 10-15 league goals each season,” Vidic told ESPN.
“United have needed to score them from different positions for a couple of years now. The team can’t just rely on the strikers; you need players in midfield and defence scoring.
“It’s good that [Paul] Pogba is scoring and, while the season is very early, hopefully the team will continue as they have started.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but won the EFL Cup and the Europa League under Mourinho.
The Red Devils have won their opening two fixture of the new season thanks to 4-0 victories over West Ham and Swansea City.
