Ian Wright makes title claim about Man United signing
The Arsenal legend believes Nemanja Matic is the final player that Man United required to win the title
Nemanja Matic is the last piece in the Manchester United jigsaw, according to Ian Wright.
The Red Devils managed to complete a £40m deal to sign the Serbia international in a £40m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this summer.
The new Manchester United midfielder has wasted no time having a big impact at Old Trafford after successive man-of-the-match performances since moving to the club.
Matic was one of Jose Mourinho’s best players in an otherwise disappointing 2-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup.
The 29-year-old excelled in Manchester United’s resounding 4-0 victory over West Ham United in their opening Premier League game of the new season.
The Red Devils were impressive 4-0 winners at Swansea City in their second fixture of the new campaign on Saturday.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Matic could be the key signing to help Manchester United finally win the Premier League title again.
“If Matic does remain fit… if he got injured, it would revert back,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He is the last piece in that jigsaw. Every other bit in that engine is working more freely with him there.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League crown since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager in 2013.
The Red Devils have in fact only finished inside the top four once since the club’s legendary manager called time on his reign.
