Jamie Redknapp tips unsung Man United star to play key role under Jose Mourinho
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp tips Marouane Fellaini to play a key role at Manchester United this season
Jamie Redknapp believes Marouane Fellaini will have a big role to play when Manchester United take on their title rivals this season.
The Belgium international has been heavily criticised since the defensive midfielder’s move to Manchester United in a £27m deal from Everton in the 2013 summer transfer window.
Fellaini struggled to have a positive impact on the Red Devils side under the management of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal but has started to come into his own under Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach has regularly turned to Fellaini to sure up his defence or provide an aerial threat if Manchester United are chasing the game.
Indeed, Mourinho admitted that potential suitors would find it more difficult to sign Fellaini than appoint the Champions League winning coach as their manager.
Former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder Redknapp believes Fellaini will have a big role to play in Manchester United’s title bid this season.
“I can see Marouane Fellaini playing an equally important role,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“There will be tight games against United’s top-six rivals where the Belgian will be called upon to shore things up.”
Manchester United have signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window so far.
The Red Devils have beaten West Ham United and Swansea City 4-0 in their opening two Premier League games of the 2017-18 season.
