Martin Keown reveals the big difference about Man United under Jose Mourinho this season
The Arsenal legend reveals the big difference about Man United this season following Sunday's 4-0 victory over West Ham
Martin Keown says Manchester United look like a different team with the addition of pace to their starting line-up.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League last season as Jose Mourinho endured a tricky first season at Old Trafford.
However, Manchester United still managed to win the EFL Cup and the Europa League trophies to end the 2016-17 campaign on a positive note.
Mourinho signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window so far.
Lukaku and Matic starting in the Manchester United line-up on Sunday in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford last weekend.
The Belgium striker scored either side of half-time before late goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba eased to a 4-0 win against West Ham.
Former Arsenal defender Keown highlighted Manchester United’s pace as a key difference between Mourinho’s team last season and last weekend.
“The biggest difference I saw in United last Sunday was their pace. I read that three of the four quickest players on the opening weekend were Manchester United players,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“United played at a higher tempo, passing with purpose, but when they broke on West Ham they showed more pace than they have in a number of years.”
Manchester United will make the trip to Swansea City in their next Premier League game at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson lifted his final top-flight trophy before retiring as Manchester United boss.
