Pat Nevin sends message to Man United fans about ‘scary’ signing
The former Chelsea winger believes Romelu Lukaku could become one of the world's best strikers at Manchester United
Pat Nevin believes Romelu Lukaku could be a scary player if Jose Mourinho can get the best out of the Manchester United signing.
The Red Devils managed to beat Premier League champions Chelsea to the signing of the 24-year-old Belgium striker in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku has already made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford following a £75m move from Everton back in July.
The Belgian forward scored his first competitive goal for Manchester United in a 2-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup final earlier this month.
Lukaku netted on his Old Trafford debut with a close-range finish to break the deadlock in their Premier League opener against West Ham United on Sunday.
The Manchester United striker scored his second goal after half-time to help Manchester United to seal a 4-0 victory over the Hammers and hoist themselves to the top of the table.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin warned Manchester United’s rival that Lukaku could blossom into a devastating striker if Mourinho can consistently get the best out of his summer signing.
“He has Mourinho. He had a go at him once at Chelsea. He will have another go at him,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“He is a scary individual. If you get the best out of him, he will be one of the best. But it is keeping hm with the right mindset for every game. He could be a god there.”
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the goal-scoring charts.
