The French striker has made a strong start to the Premier League season but only featured from the substitutes’ bench in the 4-0 victories over West Ham United and Swansea City in their opening two games.
Martial will be hoping to hold down a more regular spot in the Manchester United first team between now and the end of the season as he looks to help Jose Mourinho’s men challenge for the title.
However, former Arsenal star Keown feels that the Red Devils are fortunate to have a player of Martial’s calibre available for selection from the bench.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Keown said: “United have started the season incredibly well and what has impressed me is how their substitutes are keen to join the party as quickly as possible after coming on.
“A player like Anthony Martial would start in most other teams but United are able to deploy him as a weapon late in games.”
Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after coming up short in the top flight in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge last term and finishing sixth.
The Red Devils are also preparing for a return to the Champions League group stage next month, and they were pitted against Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow after the draw was made in Monaco last week.
Mourinho led the Red Devils to Europa League and EFL Cup glory in his first season at the club.
