Eric Bailly has told Manchester United fans that he is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford.

The Ivorian defender was a regular fixture in the Red Devils first team last season after signing for Manchester United from Villarreal as the Red Devils’ first new recruit under Jose Mourinho.

Bailly will be hoping to establish himself as one of Manchester United’s first-choice centre-halves moving forwards as he bids to help the Red Devils challenge for the Premier League title this season.

And the defender has admitted that he looks up to the likes of Ferdinand and Vidic as role models because of what they achieved at Manchester United.

Bailly is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “They are players in which I cannot do exactly the same as they did, but I have to try to follow in their steps.

“It is very difficult but everything is achieved with hard work, and I hope that happens in my case.”

Manchester United are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Mourinho’s men kicked off the new season in style with a 4-0 thrashing of West Ham United last weekend at Old Trafford, with Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial amongst the goals.

The Red Devils are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next month after their Europa League triumph last term.
