Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that he was shocked Chelsea agreed to let Nemanja Matic sign for Manchester United this summer.

The Serbia midfielder became the Red Devils’ third signing of the summer last month after Chelsea opted to let the 29-year-old leave the club and sign for their Premier League rivals.

Matic has linked up with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho after helping Chelsea to win the Premier League and EFL Cup in the 2014-15 season.

The midfielder made his Old Trafford debut as a Manchester United player on Sunday as he impressed to help the Red Devils wrap up a 4-0 win over West Ham United in front of their home fans.

And Manchester United playmaker Mkhitaryan has admitted that he was very surprised to see the Blues opt to sell Matic to the Red Devils.

“Actually I am [shocked],” Mkhitaryan is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard. “But at the same time I am very happy that we have got him.”

Matic will be hoping to feature for Manchester United in their first away game of the season, when they take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

The win over West Ham moved Manchester United to the top of the Premier League for the time being.
