Steve McManaman makes claim about Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Man United this season
Steve McManaman has been very impressed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan's strong start to the season at Manchester United
Steve McManaman has claimed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is looking much more dangerous in the Manchester United team this season.
The Armenia international initially struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League after his transfer to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
The playmaker struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team under Jose Mourinho last term but did improve his performances towards the second half of the campaign.
The 28-year-old has been in top form for Manchester United so far this season in the Red Devils’ opening two Premier League games, notching up four assists in two wins against West Ham and Swansea.
And former Liverpool and Real Madrid star McManaman believes that Mkhitaryan is now close to producing the kind of form which earned him his move to Manchester United from Dortmund last year.
Speaking on Premier League Tonight on BT Sport on Saturday, McManaman said: “Mkhitaryan now, a year later, now suddenly looks as if he’s going to make assists every game.
“He looks like the player he was when they brought him from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.
“Yes, he was the king of assists in the Bundesliga, but last year he took time to settle, which is understandable.
“Suddenly he’s started the season and I think he’s got more assists in two games than he did in the whole of last season. He’s really started the season well.”
Manchester United are now preparing to take on Leicester City in their next Premier League game as they look to continue their strong start to the season in Mourinho’s second campaign in charge.
The Red Devils are top of the Premier League table on goal difference after their strong performances.
