Paul Merson uses Henrikh Mkhitaryan to make point about Man United

Paul Merson believes that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the only player who can help Manchester United open teams up.
The Armenian playmaker signed for the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund last summer as Jose Mourinho prepared for his first campaign at the club.
Mkhitaryan endured something of a mixed debut campaign in the Premier League, as he struggled initially to adapt to the rigours of English football, before becoming a more regular fixture in the team towards the end of the season.
However, Merson believes that Manchester United are in need of more players in Mkhitaryan’s position to be able to challenge for the top trophies this season.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Romelu Lukaku needs the ball over the top, Paul Pogba won’t thread the ball through the eye of a needle, Ander Herrera is one of their best players but he’s a dogger, and is Jesse Lingard good enough?
“Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the only one really, but you need more than that.”
Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season as they look to win the trophy for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.
The Red Devils will be looking to drastically improve their domestic form this term after they ended up in sixth place in the table last season.
Manchester United did, however, win the Europa League and EFL Cup last season in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge.
