Nemanja Matic has suggested that Manchester United should take a leaf out of Chelsea’s book and play a similar formation to the Blues next season.

Chelsea enjoyed great success last term after switching to the new set-up under Antonio Conte at the start of last season as they went on to win the Premier League title.

The west London side earned plenty of praise last season for their impressive performances playing three at the back.

And Serbian midfielder Matic, who signed for Manchester United from Chelsea in a £40m deal last Monday, believes that a similar approach would work for the Red Devils next season.

When asked if the set-up could work for Manchester United, Matic said: “Why not? I think that formation is good, but we will see during the season you can always change.

“Chelsea didn’t always play the same system, they changed after ten games (after losing at Arsenal). The season is so long.”

Manchester United are currently preparing for their crunch Uefa Super Cup clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday night as they look to win the first trophy on offer to them this season.

The Red Devils then kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the new campaign.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League last term, but also won the EFL Cup and Europa League.
