Matt Le Tissier has warned Jose Mourinho that his biggest challenge will be bringing Manchester United’s air of invincibility back to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils endured a mixed first season under the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid coach following his appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor.
Manchester United regressed in the Premier League following a sixth-place finish as Mourinho prioritised the cup competitions.
The 20-time English champions were 3-2 winners against Southampton in the EFL Cup final thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s heroics.
Mourinho’s side secured a return to the Champions League thanks to a 2-0 win against Dutch giants Ajax in the Europa League final.
Remarkably, Manchester United only managed eight victories in the Premier League at Old Trafford last term, racking up 10 draws and one defeat.
Speaking to Sky Sports about what will be Mourinho’s biggest challenge at Manchester United next season, former Southampton midfielder Le Tissier said:
“I don’t see too many, to be honest, but they’ve got to bring that air of invincibility back to Old Trafford, which doesn’t happen overnight.”
Manchester United have signed three players in the summer transfer window ahead of their return to the Champions League.
The Red Devils snapped up Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.
