Pat Nevin names one Man United player who doesn’t have future under Jose Mourinho
The former Chelsea midfielder doesn't believe Juan Mata is part of Jose Mourinho's long-term plans at Manchester United
Pat Nevin has tipped Juan Mata to leave Manchester United in the future under Jose Mourinho.
The Spain international was initially tipped to leave the Old Trafford outfit following Mourinho’s appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor in 2016.
The Chelsea legend sold Mata in a £37.1m deal to Manchester United in January 2013 during his spell in charge of the west London outfit.
The Red Devils midfielder has already won the EFL Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League during his Manchester United career so far.
The Premier League title has remained an elusive prize for the Spanish midfielder throughout his spell at Chelsea and Manchester United.
Mata has started all three of Manchester United’s Premier League games so far, helping the Red Devils to win 4-0 against West Ham and Swansea City before Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin believes Mata could be facing an uncertain long-term future at the Old Trafford outfit.
“I don’t think Mata is the direction Mourinho will go,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“Mata will get another great club when he does leave. I’m mildly surprised he is still there. I think he is a fabulous player but I don’t think he is a Mourinho player.”
Manchester United finished in the sixth place in the Premier League last season.
Mata is still waiting score his first Premier League goal of the 2017-18 campaign.
