Steve Nicol sends message to Man United fans about two key players
The Liverpool legend wants to see Manchester United start with both Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata up front
Steve Nicol has urged Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to start with both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford up front next season.
The Red Devils completed the signing of Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton last month after seeing off competition from Premier League champions Chelsea.
Lukaku has a proven goal record in the Premier League although questions remain about his big-game mentality.
The 24-year-old scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish as the division’s second-highest goal-scorer.
Rashford, meanwhile, saw his ascent to the top of English football stunted last term as Mourinho used the England international sparingly.
The teenager had burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal after scoring eight goals in 18 appearances in the 2015-16 season.
Former Liverpool defender Nicol wants to see Mourinho give Rashford a chance to shine alongside Lukaku next term.
“It depends on where Mourinho plays him. I’d love to see a front two of Lukaku and Rashford. It would be exciting,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“There’s no question Lukaku will start. It means Rashford will play in a wider position.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season.
The Red Devils managed to win the EFL Cup and the Europa League to finish the campaign on a positive note.
