Arsenal legend Martin Keown is backing Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku to bully defenders in the Premier League next season
Martin Keown is backing Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku to bully defenders in the Premier League this season.
The Belgium international moved to Manchester United in a £75m deal from Everton in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku was initially linked with a move to Premier League champions Chelsea before Manchester United managed to hijack the deal.
The 24-year-old scored 25 goals in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane last term.
Lukaku has been criticised for failing to dominate big games despite his blossoming reputation in the Premier League.
However, former Arsenal defender Keown is confident Lukaku will prove a successful Manchester United signing in the 2017-18 season.
“I don’t think we’ve seen anything like what he is capable of,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“There is so much more in his locker and he will be bullying centre halves all over the Premier League. He could well win the Golden Boot.”
Lukaku scored Manchester United’s consolation goal in a 2-1 loss to Champions League holders Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup.
The Belgian striker was sold to Everton in a £27m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea in the 2014 summer transfer window.
Lukaku became the second-most expensive in Manchester United’s history behind £89m signing Paul Pogba.
Manchester United will start their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
