Michael Owen predicts where Man United will finish this season
Michael Owen is tipping Manchester United to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season
Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils’ form in the Premier League last term left a lot to be desired as Jose Mourinho’s men struggled in the top flight.
Manchester United eventually ended up coming in sixth place in the Premier League table but still managed to secure Champions League qualification after their Europa League triumph.
Jose Mourinho has moved quickly to bolster his squad at Old Trafford by completing deals to sign Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic ahead of his second season in charge.
And although Owen doesn’t feel that the Red Devils are the favourites for the title, he is expecting them to come close in the running for the trophy.
Owen is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “Manchester United were well off the pace last year, but they maybe took their foot off the gas towards the end of the season with one eye on the Europa League final. I suspect they will be closer this time.
“Jose Mourinho has added talent to an already strong squad and, as you would expect with a Mourinho side, I am sure they will be hard to beat.”
Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired back in 2013.
The Red Devils are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after they won the Europa League by beating Ajax in the final back in May.
