Phil Neville thanked Chelsea for selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United after the Red Devils were 4-0 winners against West Ham on Sunday.

The Premier League champions made the bizarre decision to sanction the 29-year-old’s £40m transfer to their direct title rivals earlier this month.

Matic was part of Jose Mourinho’s title-winning side in the 2014-15 season before the holding midfielder helped Antonio Conte secure Premier League glory in the Italian’s first season in charge.

The Serbia international has reunited with his former Chelsea head coach at Old Trafford as Mourinho partnered Matic with Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in midfield against West Ham.

The summer signing produced a dominant performance in midfield to allow Manchester United to ease to a 4-0 victory over West Ham.

Former Manchester United defender Neville couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at Chelsea after Matic’s impressive home debut in their Premier League opener.

Neville wrote on Twitter: “Thank u Chelsea for Matic wonderful gesture”

The Red Devils made the breakthrough thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s clinical finish before the Belgian striker doubled the home side’s lead from a set-piece.

Manchester United made it 3-0 courtesy of Anthony Martial’s superb goal before Paul Pogba made it 4-0 in the 89th minute.

The Red Devils are top of the table after their impressive 4-0 win over the Hammers.
