Man United told Paul Pogba still doesn’t look like a £90m player
Eamon Dunphy still doesn't consider Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to be worth his club-record transfer fee
Paul Pogba still doesn’t look like a £90m player despite his impressive Manchester United performance at Old Trafford on Saturday, Eamon Dunphy has claimed.
The France international started alongside summer signing Nemanja Matic as Manchester United welcomed West Ham to the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday.
New striker Romelu Lukaku scored either side of half-time to put the home side in command before substitute Anthony Martial extended their lead to 3-0.
Pogba managed to get his first goal of the new season in the 89th minute with a precise finish as Manchester United secured top spot in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old endured a mixed first season at Old Trafford following his club-record 89m move to Manchester United from Serie A giants Juventus last summer.
Former Manchester United midfielder Dunphy has been an outspoken critic of Pogba over the past 12 months, but the retired Republic of Ireland international was impressed with Pogba’s performance.
“Pogba was better,” Dunphy told Irish radio station 2FM ahead of Manchester United’s 4-0 win at Swansea on Saturday.
“He didn’t look like a £90m player but he looked a bit more useful. This is going to be decided when the big teams play each other.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term but still won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.
