Perry Groves believes that the Premier League title race will come down to a straight shootout between Chelsea and Manchester United next season.

Chelsea are preparing for their second season under Antonio Conte after the Italian led the Blues to the Premier League title in his first campaign at the club.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are also gearing up for their second campaign under their new manager after Jose Mourinho was appointed back in May 2016.

Mourinho led Manchester United to the EFL Cup and Europa League trophies last season but the Red Devils came up short in the Premier League, as they ended up sixth.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be hoping to challenge for the title once again but have the added distraction of Champions League football to deal with this season.

And former Arsenal star Groves reckons that the title race will come down to a battle between Chelsea and Manchester United next season.

Speaking in an interview with bwin, Groves said: “I think it’s between Chelsea and Manchester United for the league this season.

“I have no idea why Chelsea have let Matic go to United as it will strengthen their spine.

“Chelsea have made excellent signings – a midfield duo of Bakayoko and Kante could be exceptional.”

Manchester United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired back in 2013.
