Alan Shearer makes exciting prediction about Man United signing
The Newcastle legend is confident Romelu Lukaku will be a big success at Manchester United this season
Alan Shearer believes Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku will only get better at Old Trafford.
The Belgium international was at the centre of a tug-of-war between Chelsea and Manchester United earlier in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku was tipped to complete a move back to Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte looked to sign the Belgian striker as a long-term successor for Diego Costa.
However, Manchester United managed to hijack Chelsea’s deal to sign the 24-year-old after Lukaku completed a £75m switch to Old Trafford instead of a return to the English champions.
Jose Mourinho made the decision to sell Lukaku to Everton from Chelsea in a £27m deal in 2014 when the Portuguese coach was still in charge at the west London side.
Lukaku has proven himself as a regular Premier League goal-scorer during his stay at Goodison Park and he netted 25 times in 36 games in the top flight last term.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer is confident Lukaku will continue to blossom at Manchester United despite concerns about how the new signing will cope with the increased pressure at Old Trafford.
“By buying Romelu Lukaku from Everton, United have signed a centre-forward who, at the age of 24, should be coming into his prime,” Shearer told BBC Sport.
“Lukaku has scored on a regular basis in the Premier League for the past five seasons, for West Brom and Everton.
“He is only going to get better, and if United give him the amount of chances that you would expect them to, then he will score a lot of goals for them too.”
Lukaku scored in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on Tuesday night.
