Thierry Henry highlights Man United signing’s amazing quality
The Arsenal legend heaps praise on Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku after his impressive start to life at Old Trafford
Thierry Henry has highlighted Romelu Lukaku’s ability to get the best out of his Manchester United team-mates.
The Red Devils managed to conclude a deal to sign the Belgium international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton.
Chelsea were initially thought to be favourites to sign the 24-year-old striker but Manchester United managed to convince the proven Premier League star to move to Old Trafford.
Lukaku scored his first competitive goal in a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup.
The Manchester United signing scored either side of half-time in a 4-0 victory over West Ham United in their Premier League opener.
Lukaku continued his goal-scoring run with Manchester United’s second goal in a 4-0 win against Swansea City on Saturday evening.
Former Arsenal striker Henry lavished praise on Lukaku for his work ethic and his ability to get the best out of his team-mates.
“Working with him, one thing that amazes me is his desire for work in training. During training drills, he’s never smiling. It’s not about smiling, it’s about killing,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“I feel that connection [between Lukaku and Rashford] but I also feel that connection with more players. I feel Martial and Romelu is a good connection. I feel Lingard is a good connection. I feel Mkhitaryan is a good connection. I think Romelu is a good player to play with. OK, strikers, they live on numbers.
“It was probably because of his numbers that we paid so much to have him. But a striker is not just numbers. It is also the way he plays, the solutions he gives and the way he makes space for other players.
“For people like Marcus, Martial and Mkhitaryan to have that target man to play with them, I think it is very good.”
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish behind Harry Kane in the goal-scoring charts.
Manchester United have also signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League last term.
