Thierry Henry sends message to Man United fans about Romelu Lukaku
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is confident Romelu Lukaku is ready for the pressure of playing at Manchester United
Thierry Henry is confident that Romelu Lukaku is ready to make the step up to Manchester United.
The Belgium international was rumoured to be on the brink of a return to Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this summer.
However, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho managed to pull off an upset last month after the Red Devils signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton ahead of Chelsea.
Lukaku has already scored his first competitive goal for Manchester United after the 24-year-old finished from close range in a 2-1 loss to La Liga champions Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on Tuesday night.
The Manchester United forward’s big-game temperament has been questioned during his Premier League career so far after Lukaku failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge before his move to Everton in 2014.
However, Arsenal legend Henry, who is part of the Belgium coaching staff, is backing Lukaku to be successful at Manchester United in the 2017-18 season.
“He’s definitely ready for this move. He has paid his dues,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“He didn’t get much of a chance at Chelsea for whatever reason, so he went to West Brom and delivered.
“At Everton, he more than delivered. He smashed club records which had stood for a long time, so you have to give him credit.”
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish as the second-highest goal-scorer behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
The Belgian forward moved to Everton in a permanent deal from Chelsea in the 2014 summer transfer window when Jose Mourinho was still in charge at Stamford Bridge.
