Matt Le Tissier predicts where Man United will finish in title race
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier is backing Manchester United to finish in fourth place this season
Manchester United will secure a return to the top four next season, according to Matt Le Tissier.
The Red Devils appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager following Louis van Gaal’s dismissal after their fifth-place finish in the 2015-16 season.
The Portuguese coach added Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and club record signing Paul Pogba.
However, Mourinho’s quartet of signings were unable to fire Manchester United back into the top four as the Red Devils limped to a sixth-place finish.
Yet the Manchester United boss enjoyed some success after getting their hands on the EFL Cup and the Europa League trophies.
Winning Europe’s second tier competition thanks to a 2-0 win against Dutch giants Ajax secured Manchester United’s place in the Champions League this season.
Southampton legend Le Tissier is confident that Manchester United can earn a Champions League spot by finishing in the top four next term.
“I think they’ll be up there challenging,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.
“I don’t think they’ll win it but I think they’ve done some good business and will be among the top four.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson led the Red Devils to their final title in 2013.
The Red Devils have won the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the Europa League since Ferguson stood down as manager four seasons ago.
