Steven Gerrard tells Man United the players they must sign
Steven Gerrard outlines the areas he thinks still need strengthening at Manchester United this summer
Steven Gerrard believes that Manchester United are still in need of defensive reinforcements before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have already made three new signings this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to assemble a team capable of winning the Premier League title this season.
Mourinho has brought in Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic so far this summer, but the Red Devils continue to be linked with a number of other big-name players.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will bring in any new stars before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month.
But former Liverpool captain Gerrard feels that Manchester United could do with some extra reinforcements at the back.
Speaking on Premier League Tonight on BT Sport, Gerrard said: “I think they’ve got the squad to compete for the title now but they can improve in certain areas.
“I still think they need a top-class left-back.
“And I’m not sure that the centre-half partnership is one of the calibre of Ferdinand-Vidic.
“They’re the areas [that need strengthening] if you’re being ultra-fussy.”
Manchester United have kicked off their Premier League season in style, claiming victories over West Ham United and Swansea City, both with a scoreline of 4-0.
The Red Devils, who won the Europa League and EFL Cup last term, are now preparing to take on Leicester City at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game next weekend.
