Man United legend hails Jose Mourinho ‘masterstroke’
Bryan Robson hails Manchester United's transfer deal to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea this summer
Bryan Robson has hailed Jose Mourinho’s astute summer transfer business after Manchester United wrapped up a deal to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a number of top stars this summer but the Manchester United boss opted to go for Premier League experience in two of his three signings.
Mourinho has brought in Matic, along with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof this summer as he prepares for his second campaign at Old Trafford.
Matic’s transfer to the Red Devils raised some eyebrows after Chelsea opted to sell the 29-year-old midfielder to one of their Premier League rivals.
The Serbian impressed as Manchester United kicked off the new Premier League season with a 4-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford last weekend.
And former Manchester United star Robson has been very impressed indeed by the signings Mourinho has made so far this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Robson said: “You look at the squad depth and we have got power and pace as well as the quality.
“Two of the signings have been terrific again to go with the signings we had last tear. Lukaku and Matic. Matic was terrific at the weekend.
“Everyone has said who is going to replace Michael Carrick. It’s great we still have Michael at the club.
“But to have signed Matic was a masterstroke for me.
“The signings there at the weekend were brilliant. He’s going to be a great player for Manchester United over the next few years and that gives us a real chance.”
Manchester United, who finished sixth but won the Europa League and EFL Cup last term, are now preparing for their next Premier League game – a trip to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City on Saturday lunchtime.
