Darren Anderton believes that Manchester United and Tottenham could be the two main contenders for the title this season.

The Red Devils have made a flying start to the new campaign, after having notched up impressive back to back victories over both West Ham United and Swansea City.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are aiming to bounce back from the disappointment of their 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday after having won their opening game at Newcastle United.

Spurs were Chelsea’s closest challengers for the Premier League title last season but they eventually ended up falling short in the race for the top-flight crown and ended up second in the table.

Now, former Tottenham star Anderton is tipping Mauricio Pochettino’s men to go one step further this season and aim for winning the title, but warned that Manchester United look like they have gone up a “level” this term.

Speaking in an interview with Sportingbet.com, Anderton said: “They have to stay in the top four.

“Manchester United look like they’ve gone to another level from last year, I think Manchester City are brilliant going forward but I don’t think their defence is good enough to win the league.

“Tottenham finished second last year so they have to be aiming for first this year, it’s a big ask but finishing top three would be a great achievement, especially playing at Wembley. A domestic cup would be a bonus”.

Manchester United are preparing to host Leicester City in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday as they look to continue their fine start to the season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will aim to get back to winning ways when they take on Burnley at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
