Andy Cole reacts to Romelu Lukaku’s display in Man United ‘s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid
The Manchester United legend was impressed with Romelu Lukaku's goal against Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup
Andy Cole praised Romelu Lukaku for a calm and composed finish in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on Tuesday night.
The Belgium international was handed his first competitive start since completing a £75m move to Manchester United from Everton earlier in the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid made the breakthrough in the first half when Casemiro steered a low finish past David De Gea following Dani Carvajal’s superb cross.
The Champions League holders were 2-0 up in the second half when Isco guided an effort past the Manchester United goalkeeper to cap a fine performance.
Lukaku was guilty of wasting a great opportunity to halve the deficit in the Super Cup but the 24-year-old made amends in the 62nd minute with his first competitive goal.
Madrid shot stopper Keylor Navas was unable to collect Nemanja Matic’s long-range effort and Lukaku pounced on the rebound to make it 2-1.
Former Manchester United striker Cole was impressed with Lukaku’s composure to offer the Red Devils some faint hope of a comeback.
Cole wrote on his Twitter page: “Back in it…. composed himself & finish! Come on @ManUtd”
Manchester United will start the 2017-18 Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
