Gary Lineker warned Victor Lindelof will require time to settle at Old Trafford after the defender struggled in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Sweden international was signed in a £30.7m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica in June as he became Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer.

However, the 23-year-old has endured a mixed start to life at Old Trafford follow mistakes against LA Galaxy and Real Madrid during their pre-season tour of the United States.

Mourinho stuck with the centre-half for their Uefa Super Cup clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday night but Lindelof struggled to cope with one of Europe’s deadliest attacks.

Lindelof was unable to prevent Casemiro from breaking the deadlock in the first half, although the Brazilian midfielder appeared to be offside.

Isco ran the Manchester United defence ragged throughout the clash in Macedonia and the Spain international doubled the Spanish side’s lead in the second half.

Lindelof’s fellow summer signing Romelu Lukaku halved the deficit before Marcus Rashford missed a superb chance to equalise in the 81st minute.

Former England and Tottenham striker delivered a blunt verdict on Lindelof’s performance in the Uefa Super Cup.

Lineker wrote on his Twitter page: “Lindeloef looks like he might need time to settle in. #supercup2017”
