The Wales international has been linked with a potential switch to Old Trafford from the Champions League holders in the current transfer window.
Bale is facing an uncertain future in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid thought to be on the brink of signing Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe.
The 18-year-old France international’s anticipated arrival would increase competition for places in the 2017-18 season.
It has been suggested that Bale could be open to a move to Manchester United with Zinedine Zidane set to sacrifice one of his big-name players to accommodate Mbappe.
ESPN FC reporter Amoyal claimed that Mourinho would love to sign Bale but Manchester United are more likely to recruit Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Perisic this summer.
“His arrival [Mbappe] would further diminish Bale’s playing time at Real Madrid, which was already seriously impacted by Isco’s improved form at the end of last season,” Amoyal wrote in his ESPN FC column.
“While the winger’s agent Jonathan Barnett has dismissed the rumours of his client’s potential departure from the Spanish capital, Jose Mourinho would love to bring him to Old Trafford and Zinedine Zidane has conceded one of his big-name attackers could be on his way out before the transfer window closes.
“However, at this time Ivan Perisic remains a more realistic option for United.”
Bale moved to Real Madrid in an £85.3m deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the 2013 summer transfer window.
Manchester United have signed Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.
