Manager urges Man United to make the ‘signing of the summer’
Alan Pardew tells Manchester United to make "the signing of the summer" by bringing in Gareth Bale
Alan Pardew has told Manchester United that completing a deal for Gareth Bale would be the “signing of the summer”.
The Wales international has been linked with a potential return to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
Bale’s future at the Champions League holders is in doubt amid talk of Real Madrid signing AS Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe.
The France international’s arrival could impact Bale’s first-team chances under Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.
The 28-year-old was in and out of the starting line-up last season due to injury problems and competition from Isco.
Manchester United are in the market to sign a wide player but have been left frustrated in the race to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.
Former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United manager Pardew believes Bale would be a great addition to the Manchester United team.
“Gareth likes more space,” Pardew told Sky Sports.
“Man United have also got a situation where they want a wide player. They are in the market for one so I would not put it past them.
“It would be the signing of the summer in the Premier League.”
The Red Devils started their summer spending with the £30.7m addition of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.
Manchester United beat off competition from Chelsea to sign Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton.
Mourinho has also been reunited with Nemanja Matic after Manchester United signed the Chelsea midfielder in a £40m transfer.
