Man United told signing top 28-year-old attacker would make them title contenders
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol explains why Manchester United should sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid
Manchester United would be Premier League title contenders if they signed Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, according to Steve Nicol.
The Wales international has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford this summer amid growing uncertainty about his future at Real Madrid.
Bale competed with Isco for a regular first-team place last season, while the 28-year-old struggled with a series of injury problems.
The Champions League holders are thought to be looking at the possibility of signing Kylian Mbappe in a big-money deal from AS Monaco this summer.
The France international’s arrival could potentially spell the end of Bale’s time at Real Madrid, with Manchester United ready to act if the Welshman becomes available.
Former Liverpool defender Nicol believes Bale would be an instant improvement to Manchester United’s attacking options and give them a shot at winning the title this season.
“They’d be Premier League contenders,” Nicol told ESPN FC last week.
“I’m not sure they’d be Champions League contenders. Bale would bring guaranteed goals.”
Bale moved to Real Madrid in a £85.3m deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2013 summer transfer window.
Manchester United have signed Swedish defender Victor Lindelof, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window so far.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson steered the club to his 13th and final top-flight crown.
