Real Madrid are looking to complete a deal to bring in AS Monaco teenager Mbappe in the summer transfer window following the forward’s breakthrough campaign at the Ligue 1 champions.
Bale’s future has been a source of speculation so far this summer with reports suggesting that Mbappe’s arrival could signal the end of his Real Madrid career.
Manchester United have been touted as a potential destination for the Wales international despite Jose Mourinho ruling out the possibility of Bale arriving this summer.
The 28-year-old reiterated his desire to remain in the Spanish capital beyond the summer transfer window following Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Uefa Super Cup.
La Liga expert Hunter claimed that the Real Madrid hierarchy will look to sell Bale to Manchester United if Mbappe does complete a move to the La Liga champions this summer.
“If Real Madrid get Kylian Mbappe, Gareth Bale will be asked if he wants to stay and fight for his place because Real Madrid would like to finance the Mbappe deal by pushing you to Manchester United,” Hunter told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“Even though he knows Bale wants to stay. Mourinho’s message was he loves Bale, more than Real Madrid do.”
Bale moved to Real Madrid in an £85.3m deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2013 summer transfer window.
The Welsh forward has won three Champions League titles and the Spanish top flight crown during his stay at The Bernabeu.
